Aussie EMT Kevin Dowie kept his Canons warm with constant
firing in the target-rich environment of
Tanzania. Kevin toted along his 500mm f4 IS and put it
to good use. I enjoy his framing juxtapositions
and excellent sense of timing. I think Kevin
kept his eye to the viewfinder more often than not and the number of good
captures he made supports the wisdom of such an approach. So many nice ones to
choose from!

A fine sense of graphic design with an undercurrent of whimsy just starts to describe the photography of ABC's "20/20" writer-and-producer, Michael Pressman. Look for many more great images in Michael's extended online collection with this link.

It's not included here, but Michael also made a fine long-shot of the Masai tribesmen herding their cattle through Ngorongoro Crater's spectacular caldera. One of my subtle favorites. Don't click through to Michael's extended collection before you enjoy the images just beyond the link below...

Mendel was using a 70-200mm and a 300mm f4, if I remember correctly. He has since done some gear swapping and now has a 100-400mm IS in his lens arsenal. I think everyone will agree that a lens that reaches out to 400mm is just about mandatory. Mendel got plenty of good shoots by careful attention to opportunities that came close to the vehicle. That, as everyone recalls, included lots of elephants. Mendel remembered to include some nice "Master Shots" that did a good job of explaining where we were, geographically...

I’ve now received files from several of my safari pals so it’s
time to share some of their work! I'll add some of mine after we look at what my new friendssubmitted as some of their own favorites...
First up is
Madrid’s
favorite son, Antonio Alomar, aka “Babu.”
Antonio and his wife Teresa were joined by their charming grand-daughter
Adriana.
These images are from the first
trip, June 22nd through July 2nd. Everyone from our little Spanish Team was
shooting but I believe that all of these are from the camera of Antonio. I remember hearing cheers from their safari
car twice; once when the Spanish football team won the European Cup and again
when they received news that Adriana was accepted into a great Pre-Med program. Lovely folks. More pictures after you click the link below….

Jambo fellow travelers!
Bwana Brucie is back at the rancho at last…
I trust all of you traveled safely and are now sparklingly-clean and well rested. I wasn’t terribly
jet-lagged after the trek back to
Arizona
and am already back in the swing of things.
I shipped the mighty 800mm back to Canon and have begun to edit both
stills and video. I’ll be creating a
video montage that will segue into a tutorial on image finishing and digital
painting. The rough cut begins today and
then it’s into the studio for me. I plan
to document the painting process with two cameras and screen capture software
so it should be a nice finished piece.
