November 2007

I know, I know; it’s been a long stretch since the last blog entry…

Maura and I have been on the road speaking, teaching, and shooting for almost two solid months. We still have almost two weeks to go before we get an end-of season break to kick back and review. Oh, and process files!

Although an executive portrait for one of my corporate clients was processed and shipped, most of the fun imagery is still in the raw format. I can’t wait to process the cowgirls pix from our annual Autumn pilgrimage to spectacular Jackson Hole. Our stop in New York offered an opportunity to shoot on the big stage at the Canon booth and my first chance to wrap my fingers around the exciting new 21 megapixel 1D mk3. After seeing the 24” x 36” prints it punched, it took four stout lads to pry it from my grip. Most impressive was the fact that these prints were printed from straight-from-the-camera jpegs. The Canon imagePROGRAF 6100 was running like a thoroughbred throughout…

The small scale of the attached samples can’t possibly show the macro-contrast, detail, and smooth gradations of these quick beauty captures but they will have to do for now. I can’t wait to get a final version of the DPP software so I can see what really lurks within the raw files…

Dallas on November 13th and Houston on the 15th for two more installments of
“The Digital Photography Edge.” After that, lots of new designs to explore. Our travels have put a fine point on the value of fine tools and techniques for the photographer on the run and I have many new ideas to initiate. More to share very soon! In the meantime, Diligent Paulie continues to helm our little ship and remains as always, alert and helpful. Well, helpful for sure…
