"I’ve received a number of inquiries as to how I’m managing the manual focusing challenges when shooting HD with the 5D Mark II. I’ve used a Marshall LCD with some success but it’s far from perfect, bulky, and quite pricey.

My favorite and best solution is one that is shockingly simple and it works equally well in both bright and low-light conditions. It’s my newest gadget, the iDC Viewfinder. I’ve used this delightful little gadget to capture much of the footage that you’ll see in this video montage.

I have permanently attached a Hoodman 3.0 Loupe to a black-anodized aluminum baseplate and made the tidy little package fully compatible with any 1/4”-20 QR tripod plate; this includes our own iDC Dovetail for use with an Arca-Swiss style tripod head.

Hold the camera in the traditional style, press the loupe’s eyecup to your eye and shoot away. The bonus for this viewing and shooting approach is less camera movement due to mirror-slap, thus encouraging lower handheld shutter-speeds, and a much quieter noise level during still capture. A win-win for me!

For those times when I choose to use the camera's conventional pentaprism viewfinder, the Hoodman loupe can be removed with a few twists of two handy thumbscrews.

Battery usage is increased by the regular use of Live View but I think it’s a fair tradeoff. The iDC Viewfinder is designed to work with the the Canon 5D Mark II, the Canon 7D, and the Nikon D300s, but is NOT compatible with the Canon BG-E6 battery grip. The camera's battery door is easliy accessed with this design." - Bruce

The iDC Viewfinder sells for only $199 with the Hoodman included. It is only available with the Hoodman mounted.

Add our iDC Dovetail Quick-Release Plate (Arca Swiss style/compatibility) and mount this viewfinder and camera to any Arca Swiss tripod head (Also compatible with Really Right Stuff and Kirk). The 1/4-20 threaded iDC Viewfinder will mount to any standard 1/4-20 threaded tripod.

Designed by Bruce... Yep, that stands for over-built and under-priced! Made in America.
